The Return

Return

Yes! Accidentally Dutch is back. The lure of writing was too strong, the need to share too great, the desire to put finger to keyboard too powerful, and more importantly, a whole bunch of new crazy events, random happenings and strange circumstances have transpired which I have to tell you about.

With my happy return to writing I have also completely redesigned the site. The gallery section has had a complete overhaul and now contains a lot more examples of my work. The profile page has also been updated (and is a good place for new readers to start).

A lot has changed during my break from writing. In my continued efforts to investigate and integrate with Dutch culture and society I have met, fallen in love with and moved in with my Dutch girlfriend. We have been living happily together for the past half year. This also means my Dutch speaking ability has suddenly accelerated and I’m able to say more then, “hello,” “Goodbye,” and “Quickly, where is the nearest hospital,” in Dutch.

Some other things have stayed the same. I continue to work in Amsterdam for the same computer games company (Guerrilla Games) that brought me to Holland back in 2001. At the start of the year we finished Killzone 2 for the PS3. I’m also still performing improv comedy (I’ll post details when a show is coming up).

As for the rest… well you’ll just have to wait and see. I’m not going to give everything away just yet. For now I will say I am happy to be back and I am looking forward to sharing a lot more observations about the Dutch people as well as my own embarrassing stories with you.

Stuart

Stuart is an accident prone Englishman who has been living in the Netherlands since 2001. Even his move to the country was an unintentional accident, the result of replying to a cryptic job advertisement he found one day in a local British magazine. Since then he has learned to love the Dutch (so much so that he married one of them) and now calls the country home. He started the blog Invading Holland in 2006 as a place to share his strange stories of language misunderstandings, cultural confusions and his own accident prone nature.
