The Magic of The Theatre

Magic of The Theatre

England; home to the art of acting and the grandeur of the theatre, birthplace of such talented playwrights as William Shakespeare. London; well known around the world for its spectacular West End shows, some of which have been performed every night to captivated audiences for many years. To be able to say you have witnessed one of these celebrated plays with their remarkable acting and majestic theatre setting is to be a step closer to sophistication. There are so many to name. Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, The Mousetrap and Legally Blonde the Musical…

That’s right. During a recent trip to London I discovered that Legally Blonde, the film once described by critics as; “Merely a watery, poorly directed update of Clueless,” has been transformed from its chick flick movie origins into what some consider to be the highest form of art, a theatre play.

You might be wondering ‘why this movie’ but we should not question genius. Instead we should let it inspire us to achieve greatness ourselves. This is why I would like to personally make some suggestions to Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber himself. There are so many other films out there of a similar quality that are screaming out for a West End début.

Stuart

Stuart is an accident prone Englishman who has been living in the Netherlands since 2001. Even his move to the country was an unintentional accident, the result of replying to a cryptic job advertisement he found one day in a local British magazine. Since then he has learned to love the Dutch (so much so that he married one of them) and now calls the country home. He started the blog Invading Holland in 2006 as a place to share his strange stories of language misunderstandings, cultural confusions and his own accident prone nature.

But seriously. Legally Blonde the musical. What were they thinking?

… and you have no idea how much it pained me to use the words mind-blowing and Adam Sandler in the same sentence. I hope you guys understand how much I suffer for you.

Oh… and The Happening is so bad that I recommend seeing it. I don’t mean in a ‘so bad it’s good’ way. I mean you just have to see it to understand how bad it is.

Oh. My. God. I’d so see those musicals! :P Seriously, musicals aren’t really my genre anyway, but imagining C (or possible Z) movies adapted to the stage… I think I might have to kill myself. Or others, just to cope with the horror of that thought.

There is a musical based on the life of David Beckham, you forgot that gengre. Perhaps a musical based on the life of Vinnie Jones??
But “The wedding singer” does actually have a potential as a musical. Even if Adam Sandler is in it, I must admit that I like it. But that could just be because Drew Barrymore is in it. Or a new line of musicals based on the movies of Jean-Claude van Damme?? Double Impact and Cyborg comes to mind.

Probably that anyone making fun of it would manage to spell ‘Blonde’ correctly. ;) Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Anneke – I started them as a joke but I think I would go and see the last two if they made them.

Veronica – A musical based on the life of David Beckham?….. I have no words. All I can do is hang my head in shame for the human race.

I have to admit, as much as I hate Adam Sandler I did like the wedding singer and I could see that working as a musical.

Now Vinnie Jones and Jean-Claude van Damme plays…. there is a great idea.

Heather – Errr… *cough* Ummm… *waves hand in jedi mind trick fashion* There is no spelling error here. These are not the spelling errors you are looking for.

Thanks for letting me know. I’ve done a quick correction :)

I’m sorry but if that ever comes here, I’M GOIN’!! Call me crazy but I loved Legally Blonde and I’d love the musical too.

    I AM NOT ASHAMED, Stu!

Ok maybe a little, but I’d still go. Does this mean we can’t be friends? :P

  7. Diagonal says:

Haha, love this post. The happening, isnt that one where the plants make everyone commit suicide? Oh No! Evil Grass! Ahhhhhh!

  8. Invader Stu says:

Breigh – Hhhmmmm… I guess we can be. But what is your standing on Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider? :p

Diagonal – It is. It’s amazing. Not only is the story bad but the acting is too and the editing and the directing and everything. You really have to see it.

  9. Breigh says:

Umm… I like them, I admit it. Not in large doses but I do find them entertaining. Sorry! :P

  10. Invader Stu says:

    I forgive you :p
